Atkins Networks and Drainage Engineering team works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. We provide innovative solutions for the analysis and rehabilitation of water distribution systems to ensure a reliable supply and drainage systems to prevent flooding / pollution.

 

Our staff are typically engineers or geographers and provide technically complex and innovative solutions to deliver benefits and optimise solutions.
We are looking for a Technician to join our dynamic networks team in Birmingham to support the delivery of a wide range of projects in the UK and overseas.

 

Responsibilities of this role include site inspections, flow and pressure monitoring of water distribution networks (full training will be given), manipulation of flow and pressure data in Excel and presenting this information clearly. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to acquire clean water network modelling skills within the team and to develop a career in this field.

 

Whilst technical experience is not necessarily required, the applicant should be highly motivated, literate and numerate with an interest in Geographical Information Systems. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of clean water modelling and GIS packages e.g. Synergi, MapInfo and / or ArcGIS packages, would be beneficial.



Responsibilities:

  • Produce a consistently high standard of work.
  • Contribute to problem-solving within the project team.
  • Maintain good client relationships.
  • Deliver good customer service with the ability to deal directly with customers face to face.
  • Support the team in project administration.

Requirements:

  • 5 GCSE Grade C or above passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science.
  • A Level and /or other further education qualifications an advantage.
  • A proactive and conscientious approach to work.
  • A keen eye for detail and a desire to learn.
  • Experience of working in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to understand and follow instruction.
  • An ability to be creative and to innovate new solutions.
  • A willingness to learn from project experiences and to adopt Atkins' systems and processes.
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Be available to travel across the UK.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Evidence of successfully undertaking and completing work experience (voluntary/employed)
  • A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water cycle
  • An interest in Geographical Information Systems and computer modelling.
  • Knowledge of clean water modelling and GIS computer packages.
