Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Raleigh, NC team as a TMC Analyst (Traffic Management Center).

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under supervision, applies knowledge of TMC/Toll Systems, TMC/Toll Operations and relevant TMC/Toll related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology to the investigation of transportation planning, engineering and operational needs and problems, the coordination of TMC/Toll project activities, and the preparation of preliminary plans and documents. Carries out job functions within small, project-oriented, multidisciplinary teams and supports direct interaction with clients within the context of project progress meetings, design reviews, operations, and project production and delivery. Major results expected include high-quality written, verbal and graphical deliverables in the form of operational concepts, technology reviews, designs and specifications.


JOB DUTIES
  • Performs work which involves the application of leading-edge information and communication technologies to transportation planning, engineering, and operations.
  • Conducts investigations, surveys, requirements definition and technology reviews requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning.
  • Carries out diversified projects of a single project with a limited number of complex features.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or a toll-related subject such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Planning, Accounting, Economics, Business, Law, or Information Technology. Toll-related Master's degree/MBA can substitute for one year of experience.
  • This level may be achieved by candidates with two (2) years’ experience since Bachelor's or one (1) year since Master's. Relevant work experience would provide exposure to information and communication technologies, toll operations, and/or intelligent transportation systems (ITS), including fiber-optic communication design, video systems, computer hardware & software, toll collection systems and sub-systems, toll infrastructure, electronic payment, or traffic management.
  • Without a degree, a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience is required in information and communication technologies, toll operations, and/or intelligent transportation systems (ITS), including fiber-optic communication design, video systems, computer hardware & software, toll collection systems and sub-systems, toll infrastructure, electronic payment, or traffic management.
SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Good technical writing, analytical and communications skills essential, including ability to present concepts verbally. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access is desired. 
  • Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Outlook or equivalent e-mail program is desired as well as the use of Internet and other information processing and storage techniques to support research of alternatives and the definition of designs and concepts.
