If you are a technically established Electrical Engineer with National Grid TP141 authorisation, then we are all waiting for you to join our team. You’ll be proactive, enjoy working collaboratively and have strong leadership skills.

This opportunity is to strengthen our activities in transmission substation design, in particular to support National Grid’s FEED framework, on which we have recently been reappointed. In particular, we are looking for an experienced HV electrical engineer to strengthen our substation design team with the appetite to liaise directly with clients and drive forward this area of the business. You will ideally be located within our Leeds team, but other locations or flexible arrangements would be considered.

If this sounds like you, then we’d love you to apply for this role.

The Role

As part of our team you’ll be providing expert advice across various projects within the immediate and wider business. This role will involve contributing to project development, engineering specification preparation, reviewing design specifications and design drawings for verification and assurance, and the production and management of both technical and operational data.

Building and developing relationships is a key part of this role, as is management of the design process through the role of Lead Assurance Engineer on specific projects. You be providing Client / Supplier design interface and management, and also reviewing tender returns, equipment specifications, protection and control schematics, method statements, protection settings and commissioning documentation.

The Person

You will enjoy working in a team environment and using your expertise to take a lead role within our team. You’ll also have the desire and ability to lead bids, deliver and technically manage work either as a lead or part of a team. You will also have strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills.

You’ll have working knowledge of individual relay designs, commissioning methodologies and be experienced in UK practices. In addition to having a positive attitude to health and safety (especially within the design process), you’ll also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • National Grid TP141 authorisation, ideally one or two of the following: TP141 Commissioning Office, TP141 Protection & Control and TP141 Settings;
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/ or Masters in Electrical Engineering, but candidates holding HNC/ HND qualifications and proven experience will also be considered;
  • Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of IET;
  • Extensive Protection and Control experience in an Electrical engineering role
  • Good understanding of fault calculations, protections settings and their applications;
  • Conversant with Health & Safety requirements and responsibilities under CDM regulations, ideally holding National Grid Principal Designer status;
  • A good working knowledge of other design disciplines would be advantageous, e.g. HV Plant.
