Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Atlanta, GA staff as a Traffic Engineer.


Major/Function/Role:
  • Under supervision, performs routine traffic/transportation engineering work while developing professional proficiency.
  • On design assignments, works to learn how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications. 
  • On assignments involving investigations and planning, works to learn the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems. 
  • Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

Job Duties:

  • Generally applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning.
  • Will assist with work that involves conventional transportation and traffic engineering practice. 
  • Primary responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, those stated below:
  • Perform traffic simulation and capacity analysis;
  • Develop project level traffic forecasts;
  • Supporting with the preparation of written reports and presentations of project findings;
  • Analyze historical crash data; and
  • Perform field reviews of project study area


Education & Experience:
  • B.S. in Engineering. 
  • Minimal experience is required of incumbents with a Bachelor's Degree in a branch of Engineering directly related to hiring discipline; no experience required with a Master's degree.

Special Skills:

  • Good interpersonal skills and capable of developing technical writing, and communications skills. PC and CAD skills required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that are familiar with and/or have experience with traffic analysis software (TransModeler, Synchro, HCS, Sidra, VISSIM, CORSIM, etc).

Professional Registrations:

  • E.I. or EIT desired.
