Trainee / Assistant Stuctural Integrity Engineer

The Team

Within the Energy business, we have been involved with the design, assessment and modification of over 1000 oil and gas installations around the world and are the operator’s ‘go to’ company for difficult challenges from life extension to innovative new design. You will become part of a growing team of over 2000 engineers working in the global energy sector.
Our operation in Central London supports projects focused on the design and operation of fixed and floating offshore structures in the Oil and Gas and Renewables markets. Atkins is at the forefront of providing novel design services and offshore Structural Integrity Management services, delivering innovative solutions to manage the integrity of offshore assets over their full lifecycle.
The Role

We are looking for Structural, Civil or Mechanical Engineers with who have a good understanding of structures and the application of design codes to provide practical solutions to our clients’ challenges.

Working in an engineering consultancy, you will have the opportunity to get in involved in a wide variety of projects for our clients in the offshore renewables and oil and gas markets including the assessment and design of many types of offshore structures including fixed and floating.

You’ll support technical delivery of work packages and present your work to clients through reports and presentations.

The Person

You’ll have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills and achieve Chartered status. With a passion for working in a consultancy environment, you’ll want to work with customers and with teams who deliver to their customers and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with uncertainty. Communication and team-working will be your key skills as well as having the ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions under pressure.

• You’ll have a keen interest in offshore structural engineering with the following qualifications and experience:
• Masters engineering degree, honours or equivalent in structural, civil, mechanical, naval architecture or similar;
• Working towards obtaining chartership with a recognised engineering institution;

Experience or knowledge in some of the following is desirable:

• Some experience in the design or assessment of offshore structures 
• Linear and non-linear offshore structural analysis of Fatigue, Ultimate and Accidental Limit States and Ship impact
• Structural hand calculations to relevant codes and standards
• Application of wave and wind action and topsides loading
• Fracture and fatigue crack growth assessments
• Inspection techniques and inspection planning methodologies
