Trainee Technician - Epsom

Atkins Networks and Drainage team works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. We provide innovative solutions for the analysis and rehabilitation of drainage systems to prevent flooding / pollution and water distribution systems to ensure a reliable supply. Our staff are typically engineers or geographers and provide technically complex and innovative solutions to deliver benefits and optimise solutions.

An expanding workload means that we now need to take on two Trainee Technicians in Epsom to support the delivery of a wide range of projects in the UK and the Middle East. The role will involve supporting the existing team on a variety of computer hydraulic modelling, GIS and data analysis work. Whilst technical experience is not necessarily required, the applicant should be confident, literate and numerate with an interest in Geographical Information Systems. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of Infoworks or MapInfo computer packages, would be beneficial.


Responsibilities

• Support the team in project administration.
• Contribute to problem-solving within the project team.
• Produce a consistently high standard of work.
• Maintain good client, supplier and in-house relationships.

Requirements

• 5 GCSE Grade C or above passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science (Geography an advantage)
• A Level and /or other further education qualifications an advantage
• A proactive and conscientious approach to work
• A keen eye for detail and a desire to learn
• Experience of working in a team environment
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to understand and follow instruction
• An ability to be creative and to innovate new solutions
• A willingness to learn from project experiences and to adopt Atkins' systems and processes
• Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable Criteria

• Evidence of successfully undertaking and completing work experience (voluntary/employed)
• A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water cycle
• An interest in Geographical Information Systems and computer modelling.
• Knowledge of Infoworks or MapInfo computer packages.
