Transport Communications Systems - Design, Technical Lead Senior Engineer

Due to an expanding workload, we are currently seeking additional Design and Technical Lead Senior Engineers for our Transport Communications Systems Practice.

Join us and you’ll use the latest technologies to transform millions of road journeys. You’ll deliver the technology systems that will optimise tomorrow’s transport infrastructure. Behind small steps and giant leaps, we drive innovative projects from traffic signals and smart motorways to control centres and real-time road user information.

Our key partners, Highways England, and Transport for London (TfL) have large investment programmes so our portfolio; is varied, challenging and interesting as we lead the way in delivering innovative technology solutions.

We advise and support on everything during a project lifecycle from initial concept/feasibility, design, construction, testing & commissioning to contract procurement. So, you can look forward to plenty of variety from testing systems on site to exploring next generation software and developing connected vehicles.

Location: To work from one of our Birmingham / Manchester / Cardiff / Bristol / Epsom offices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design Engineers:
• To produce a wide range of feasibility studies, outline design and detailed design packages that comply with Design Briefs and applicable standards.
and
• Technical Lead Senior Engineers:
• To mentor, lead and review the technical outputs of a team of Design Engineers


REQUIREMENTS

• Degree or equivalent with relevant professional registration or potential to apply;
• Ability to design technology solutions and understand complex issues and capture client and system requirements;
• Design experience of Smart Motorway or Highways Technology (ITS) and the application of standards for Vehicle Detection, CCTV, Variable Message Signing and emergency telephone systems;
• Ability to work as a team and deliver assignments, within tight time constraints
• An awareness of Health and Safety issues;
• Client focussed and able to develop effective relationships with clients;
• Proven ability to learn new skills and understand complex technical projects rapidly;
• Full Driving Licence;
• Flexibility for occasional periods working away from normal office location including site and night work.

DESIREABLE

• Project Management experience, including developing and maintaining MS Project plans, for resource loaded estimates, Time, Cost, Quality and scope control;
• Project Management qualification or working towards APM/PMI or equivalent;
• National Highways Sector Scheme, Sector 8 qualified (QS, AO, ECS Card) and/or;
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card at Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) or equivalent.
