This role presents a unique opportunity to join the Network and Operations Technology Practice, becoming a leader in delivering innovative solutions to traffic and network management, shaping the future for mobility. The role requires an individual who is dynamic, visionary and an experienced Transport Technology Consultant. The individual will be contributing to value proposition and bid development, as well as taking a pro-active role in project delivery in a range consultancy solutions within the transport technology context, for both small scale projects and multi-million programmes. This opportunity will allow the individual to develop their own technical capabilities across the transport technology landscape, and be a key player in the movement towards emerging technologies.

Job Responsibilities 
As part of the Network Operations and Technology Practice you will be involved with driving forward long-term investments into transport technology schemes, delivering strategic and technical advice to clients on innovative technology solutions. Your role will involve advising and supporting clients in the deployment of technology on the road network and associated control centres. Our team assists public sector organisations in a wide number of activities, across the life cycle of a project. Typically, these include: 

• Business case development, requirements capture and specification design.
• Project and programme management, dealing with stakeholders and risk and change management. 
• System procurement including reviewing and assessing contractor proposals.
• Research and feasibility studies into new technologies including connected and autonomous vehicles. 
• Calibration and optimisation of network management systems, e.g. traffic signals, ramp metering, smart motorways. 
• Overseeing installation, commissioning and acceptance testing of network management systems.
• Economic appraisal and evaluation of technology schemes.


Requirements

The ideal candidate must be client focussed and able to develop effective relationships. Be an inquisitive, self-starter who is comfortable in using their own initiative to investigate issue and develop innovative solutions for clients. Be able to work with a great focus and be an effective communicator and team player.

Key qualifications include a degree in the suitable field and other relevant professional qualifications such as PRINCE2 and/or AGILE or equivalent, with exceptional written and presentation skills. Appropriate experience must demonstrate that the candidate can provide high quality consultancy as part of a project team. Candidates will be required to prepare bids, support as a project manager and be willing to lead appropriately sized tasks themselves.

They must have proven experience in delivering transportation projects relating to technology schemes, including but not limited to Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) and Urban Traffic Control (UTC) systems, Smart Ticketing and Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI), with familiarity with a wide range of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) technologies, including journey time measurements, data mining, Variable Message Signs (VMS), and CCTV. Ideally, at least 5 years of experience is desired with working both within a Local Authority and strategic market.

Specifically, the key areas of responsibility will include:

• Working in a multi-disciplinary team, developing innovative solutions and technical offerings for a range of public-sector clients.
• Supporting client engagement on new and disruptive technologies, such as cloud-based technologies, intelligent infrastructure, new integrated operational platforms, data exploitation and modelling.
• Flexibility in supporting different roles on projects, including project management, technical and advisory roles.
• Taking ownership and responsibility for the delivery of specific projects and/or programme offerings.
• Ability to deliver quality services to projects, within the agreed time and budgets, showing awareness of project risks and how to manage them (including health and safety).
• Show an awareness and understanding towards the commercial constraints of specific projects and/or programmes.
• Be able to assist and guide less experienced staff on technical delivery and project management.
• Contribute to new value propositions and test existing propositions.
• Possess a proactive willingness to learn and be motivated to develop, refine and advance your skills and abilities continuously.
