Atkins Global Design Centre (GDC) Transportation Business is looking to appoint a Highways BIM Technical Authority and a Rail BIM Technical Authority to support the delivery of complex civil engineering and multidisciplinary designs across a range of major projects.

Drawing upon a diverse skill set and a proven track record of delivery Atkins GDC’s Transportation business is playing an integral role in some of the most challenging and exciting engineering projects in the Transportation realm, across various regions of the world. These key posts will be based out of Bangalore or Gurgaon where we have thriving Atkins offices, which deliver to all Atkins regions across the world. Our portfolio of work continues to grow and we will offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience and problem solving skills. As a BIM Technical Authority, you will be a key part of Atkins GDC Transportation’s BIM strategy team and will be a passionate advocate of BIM, responsible for implementing our BIM Change programme.

Overall objective:

Work with the Professional Head of BIM for Transportation to deliver our BIM strategy for the Highways and Rail domains and ensure –

·        Consistent application of BIM on all our Transportation projects.

·        Upskilling of project staff in BIM.

·        Leverage BIM to drive real efficiencies in our own design work, eliminating mistakes and creating value.

·        BIM becomes business as usual.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Strategy

·        Assist with definition of work packages and deliver them

·        Keep abreast of Atkins Group’s thinking and help us influence it in the right direction.

·        Advise on decisions that need to be taken, including software purchases.

 

Project mobilisation and delivery

·        Ensure we implement our BIM Execution Plan (BEP) correctly on design projects.

·        Determine requirements for new projects and support/drive mobilisation as necessary.

·        Embed use of our preferred tools and processes.

·        Keep close to design projects and identify where support is needed.

 

Tools and processes

·        Capture Highways and Rail domain requirements for systems and tools, create business cases and deliver their content.

·        Determine the optimal software packages for delivery of our disciplines and the optimal combination of these packages at different stages of the project.

·        Determine the tools we need to buy or develop and the programme for this; organise software trials as necessary

 

 

 

 

Assessing and developing capability

·        Assess breadth of ability in 3D modelling (C3D, Revit, AecoSIM, OpenBridge, Concept station, OpenRoads, etc), plus 4D, 5D & 6D capabilities and create a plan for development of teams.

·        Review each discipline for opportunities to standardise modelling, introduce libraries and introduce parametric modelling of repeating components like gantries; facilitate implementation of new tools 

 

Setting our delivery standards and expectations

·        Define Business as Usual (BAU), silver and gold standards and maintain BEP

·        Move silver and gold standards into to BAU as we develop our skills and capabilities

 

Continuous development

·        Capture learning from other businesses and implement in H&T where appropriate

·        Harness new technologies and the enthusiasm of young technology-orientated staff

·        Identify opportunities for modularising design for offsite fabrication

 

Key required experience and skills:

 

Key experience

·        Experience of leading BIM in an engineering discipline.

·        Familiarity with relevant BIM software platforms and proficiency in one or more.

 

Key skills

·        Understanding and experience of civil engineering transport projects, preferably within the Highways and or Rail domains.

·        Ability to influence others, both more and less senior

·        Ability and desire to innovate, to assess new technologies and make sound judgements on implementation based on risk and reward

·        Ability to communicate complex issues in an intelligible way to non-specialists

·        Ability to identify outcome-based objectives, turn them into actions and see them to a conclusion

·        Infectious enthusiasm that inspires and motivates others.
