SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our team in Atlanta, GA as a Transportation Intern in the Graduate Development Program.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join the Graduate Development Program, which consists of an 18-month period in which the engineer will rotate through various groups or disciplines (Structures, Highway, ITS/Traffic, Planning, Water and Construction Management) to acquire a good understanding of how each disciple works with the intent that the employee fits in the proper area based on the development program experience.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

The Graduate Development Program (GDP) Summer Internship is intended as a feeder program into our GDP* program and other entry level positions. Interns will have the opportunity to rotate through 2-3 selected technical areas over the summer months in a truncated version of the GDP program. Under supervision, interns will perform a variety of basic technical tasks to assist technicians, engineers, architects, planners, surveyors or scientists working in transportation, development, environmental, land surveying or other technical services of the company.

Note: This paid classification is used for college students who are enrolled in a Civil Engineering Bachelor's degree program at a Junior or Senior academic level, and are hired for temporary work during their summer break. *Graduate Development Program For more than a decade, we’ve offered new grads an opportunity to grow personally and professionally through our GDP. The GDP is an 18-month program, during which participants rotate through assignments designed to expose them to a variety of disciplines in the civil engineering field. Overall, the GDP includes from 4 to 6 core rotations, typically including Tolls, Aviation, Roadway Design, ITS, Construction, and Survey. Our Graduate Development Program is designed to train and develop technical professionals by offering innovative, hands-on technical applications deemed critical to the industry, and to produce well-rounded professionals who support the overall corporate mission and vision.


JOB DUTIES
  • Generally applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning. Interns should have the ability to work 40 hours per week from May to August.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school plus two years of specialized training such as is obtained in vocational or technical school, or completion of an Associate's degree program in a related technical field, or completion of the first two years in a four-year college or university technical program. No experience is required with a related Associate's degree or its equivalent; two years of related experience is required without such formal training.
SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Good interpersonal skills. Solid oral and written communications skills, capable of developing technical writing. PC and CAD skills required.
