SNC-Lavalin Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our team in Raleigh, NC as a Transportation/Tolling Engineering Technician.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under supervision, provides proficient technical support to engineers, planners, architects, surveyors or scientists working in transportation, development, environmental, land surveying or other technical services of the company.
Work is performed under supervision, in accordance with established procedures. Supervisor provides initial instructions, requirements and advice, and checks completed work for technical adequacy.

JOB DUTIES
  • Performs complex technical assignments applying knowledge of mathematics and principles of engineering, planning, surveying, science or architecture to support related company projects. 
  • Utilizes considerable analytical ability such as is required to interpret technical or scientific information and perform moderately complex math computations.
  • Extracts, compiles and interprets a variety of technical data such as contract documents and specifications, field notes, codes and ordinances, government publications, surveys, lab reports, and product information.
  • Writes preliminary reports and performs quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and labor man-hour estimate for projects.
  • Performs audits on complex systems verifying data recorded is accurate and systems are operating within their contractual specifications.
  • Assists client with trend analysis for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports as needed.
  • Conducts field reviews to assess environmental conditions or environmental impact of projects; performs data reduction and transcription, and/or other environmental investigation activities; prepares summary and interpretation of findings.
  • Performs moderately complex mathematical calculations.
  • Communicates with vendors and service providers to ensure service levels are maintained at contractual specifications.
  • Drafts base maps, site plans, construction drawings and/or other technical drawings, working from field notes, sketches or conceptual designs.
  • Prepares meeting minutes, graphic displays, and presentation materials.
  • Coordinates with CAD technicians, reprographics and other technical personnel.
  • May contact client representatives, regulatory agency personnel and/or zoning officials as required to obtain information.
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus six years related experience OR an Associates Degree in a related technical field plus four years related experience is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills; good drafting ability where required; familiarity with technical discipline supported.

  • Client Service, Commitment, Communication, Innovation & Continuous Improvement, Professionalism, Quality and Teamwork. (Note that "Clients" may be internal managers and staff.)
  • Ability to operate and manage both hard and soft types of technology. 
  • Ability to visit field sites if/when necessary, per client or management request.
  • Strong candidate will be a proven team player as well a reliable self-starter.
