Atkins’ Transportation and Infrastructure Division is our centre of excellence for the design of highways and utilities infrastructure projects in the Middle East. We aim to be the first choice designer for local and national highway authorities, contractors and developers.

To meet our growth ambitions, we are seeking an experienced Utilities Design Lead Engineer to join our Doha office and lead our utilities project team to develop solutions from concept to detailed design, specification and construction on a range of challenging projects across the Middle East. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining and enhancing Atkins reputation with our clients and developing effective long term client relationships thus identifying and developing new opportunities for the Group
  • Managing and coordinating the design for all utilities and services within projects including foul and storm water sewers, potable water, TSE, electrical cables, street lighting, telecommunications, Petroleum lines, , landscaping and irrigation, gas, electric, fibre optic, cables etc
  • Ability to lead and direct design teams across distant geographies, abilities to present innovative solutions to technical problems.  Utilise and encourage the use of technology in preparation of design .
  • Building good working relationships within complex structures both within project teams, with clients and internally within Atkins.
  • Developing and Implementing the relevant industry standards.
  • Undertake review of the designs prepared by Peers/subordinates including conformance with design criteria, cost effectiveness, aesthetics, alternatives, operation and maintenance issues, design life, assessment of deliverable against objective,  progress and adequacy of submittals.
  • Peer Reviews – Covering issues such as cost effectiveness, aesthetics, alternatives, operation and maintenance, design life, etc.  
  • Liaison and interfacing with utility companies to ensure the design takes cognisance of their requirements.
  • Lead preparation of tender documents and response to quotation requests. Preparation of financial and technical proposals with general understanding of commercial issues.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years post graduate experience in design of Utilities in major highway projects
  • Proven ability to manage projects of similar size and nature to deliver completed quality work on time and within budget
  • Proven ability to coordinate a multi-disciplinary team on projects of similar size and nature
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide variety of interests/authorities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Arabic speaker would be advantageous.
  • Self motivated with a positive attitude and initiative to work well without supervisions
  • Ability to work under pressure  and to tight deadlines
  • Flexibility and open-mindedness to new tasks and challenges
  • Be an adept negotiator and have the ability to exert influence while seeking a solution which will benefit all parties.

Desirable:

  • Experience across other major civil engineering/infrastructure design projects such as rail, water or aviation.
  • Experience of monitoring construction contracts
  • Experience of site supervision activities
