Atkins Nuclear Solutions US is currently seeking a Waste Management Specialist to join the nuclear team in Oak Ridge, TN.

Job Description

 

Implements the Waste Management and Transportation Program.

 

Plan and coordinate various waste management and recycle projects.

 

Interprets and implements Federal and State regulations and DOE Orders as they pertain to management of hazardous materials, mixed wastes, universal waste and used oils.

 

Characterizes waste materials to determine proper packaging, on-site storage, and accumulation area management.

 

Ensure sample custody is properly maintained and recorded on Chain of Custody Records.

 

Assist in the preparation of Waste Profiles in accordance with the waste acceptance criteria of Treatment, Storage, Recycle and Disposal Facilities.

 

Assist waste generators in the development of Generator Waste Management Plans.

 

Provides support to Isotek Transportation personnel during waste generation and packaging operations, including performing oversight of waste packaging to ensure WAC compliance.

 

Verify waste package integrity prior to, during and upon completion of waste loading activities.

 

Provides necessary waste contents, volumes and characterization data to update eMWaste software database.

 

Perform routine inspections of waste storage areas.

 

Ensures waste management registrations and permits are maintained current.

 

Performs waste management assessments and surveillances.

 

Prepare and revise waste management procedures and plans.

 

Supports the execution of Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) guiding principles and core functions and the Isotek Safety Culture.



Required Skills and Education

Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, or 10 years of relevant experience.

Minimum of 5 years waste management related experience, of which 1 year is nuclear.

Training, knowledge and experience in health physics and radiation protection.

Training, knowledge and experience in RCRA hazardous waste regulations.

Must have thorough knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) requirements.

Must be able to calculate radiological and/or hazardous material activity based on laboratory data.

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Strong communication, verbal and written skills.

Excellent organization skills.

Strong math skills.

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.

US citizenship required for Atkins Global Isotek Systems project positions.

In addition, any candidates with dual citizenship in the US and another country must undergo further review for approval by the NNSA.
