Waste Water Modeller / Technician

Atkins Networks and Drainage team works with Water Companies, Water Management Agencies, Private Developers and a range of clients in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. We provide innovative solutions for the analysis and rehabilitation of drainage systems to prevent flooding / pollution and water distribution systems to ensure a reliable supply. Our staff are typically engineers or geographers and provide technically complex and innovative solutions to deliver benefits and optimise solutions.

An expanding workload means that we now need to recruit a Waste Water Modeller / Technician in our Glasgow Office to support the delivery of a wide range of projects in the UK and overseas. The role will involve supporting the existing team on a variety of drainage related work including computer hydraulic modelling, GIS, data analysis and Civil Engineering aspects of drainage design. Whilst technical experience is not necessarily required, the applicant should be confident, literate and numerate with an interest in the Water Industry and Geographical Information Systems. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of Infoworks, MapInfo and AutoCAD computer packages, would be beneficial.



Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of projects as part of a team as well as on individual assignments as required
  • Investigation and resolution of waste water infrastructure issues through the development of design solutions
  • Interacting with Clients and other stakeholders during face to face meetings
  • Data analysis and presentation of results in a clear and concise format including writing of technical reports and production of drawings
  • Keen to learn and develop technically, working towards an academic and professional qualification
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project roles.
  • Observing Contractors Working on site completing data collection activities.

Requirements:

  • A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water sector
  • Prior experience of Geographical Information Systems and MapInfo computer software desirable
  • Knowledge of computer modelling using InfoWorks is desirable but not essential
  • Scottish National 5 or GCSE Grade C passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science
  • HNC, HND or Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering, Geography, GIS, other Science related subject is desirable although not essential. Opportunities to work towards these can be discussed and supported for the right candidate.
  • Full UK driving licence would be beneficial
