Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind - Civil and Structural Engineering Summer and Industrial Year Placements (2019)

What you’ll be doing

We have opportunities for Summer and Industrial Year placements across a range of our Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind teams in the UK.  In Civil or Structural Engineering, you could be working in one of the following teams, here’s a little about what they do;

Aberdeen - based here you’ll be focused in the Oil and Gas market, as a Summer or Industrial Year Placement in civil or structural engineering you could be involved in; working with North Sea operators in supporting them in their brownfield modification projects and/or operational support work in their daily production.  This is a dynamic environment ensuring that code requirements, production efficiency and safe operations are maintained using innovative approaches to assets which, in some cases are 40 years old, operating efficiently and safely pushing your knowledge and capability to the full extent.

Bristol -  Based here we are engaged in a broad range of projects and while our operations focus on fixed and floating offshore structures we also have the adaptability to support the nuclear energy market. Your role will include structural engineering, analysis and design of new offshore fixed and floating structures. Structural integrity of offshore structures and process plant. Assisting in the assessment of fatigue and reliability of structures. Involvement in multi-disciplinary design projects across Energy sectors. In Bristol as a Summer or Industrial Year Placement you will become part of a global team located in North America, Australia, the Middle East, Europe and the UK.

Epsom - Based in Epsom within the Offshore Structural Engineer team you will be working on concept, FEED and detailed design of major offshore assets together with developing innovative solutions for repair and upgrades. Responsibilities include conducting structural engineering, analysis and design work, completion and delivery of engineering consultancy work for all types of offshore fixed structures, ensuring the provision of efficient high quality structural engineering, contributions to proposals, tenders, business and marketing plans and meeting cost and time targets to deliver high quality consultancy services to oil and gas industry clients. 

London - Based here as a Summer or Industrial Year Placement in Civil or Structural engineering, you will find yourself working on projects in the Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind markets carrying out assessments of existing structures, including modifications and repairs, as well as design and assessment for new build projects. Some of our recent projects include Repsol UK Structural Integrity Management (SIM), Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm and the Yme Field Redevelopment. There may also be the opportunity for occasional site based work on offshore Oil & Gas platforms in the North Sea, if this is something that excites you.  We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in offshore structures and a desire to work with software tools such as Mathcad, Python, Excel and various Finite Element packages.

Glasgow & Edinburgh -  Based in our Glasgow, Bellshill or Edinburgh office as a Summer or Industrial Year Placement in civil or structural engineering, you will find yourself working on projects in the Offshore Engineering markets. Some of our current projects include Asset Integrity work for BP and Repsol in the North Sea, Structural Design for the Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm and Mechanical Integrity assessments for Power Stations in the UK and overseas.  We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in assessing integrity of aging plant, performing structural & mechanical design and analysis.

In addition to some of the responsibilities you can see above for specific locations - As a Summer or Industrial Year placement engineer, you could also be involved in;
stems
Carrying out surveys and site inspections, building strong client relationships
Using a variety of engineering software packages, as well as 2D and 3D modelling for new designs and modifications
Producing safety cases, reports and documentation to support the planning, design, operation, maintenance of Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind facilities
Carrying out design and assessment for new build projects as well as additions, modifications and repairs to existing assets.
