Electrical Engineering - Infrastructure

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer within our Design and Advanced Technology Water team you’ll help to support our clients across the Water sector in the UK and internationally. Our team provides expertise in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ICA (Instrumentation, Control and Automation) and Process Engineering, which you will learn throughout your time within AtkinsRéalis. The role will include Electrical Engineering training in order to develop your understanding; This will provide you with the essential skills of Electrical Engineering, which are applicable across several other sectors.

Projects often include the opportunity for site visits which will further develop your understanding of Electrical Engineering, and the infrastructure associated with it. You’ll get the opportunity to develop your capability in both new build and refurbishment projects. This will include activities such as: determining the site power requirements and control regimes (in documents such as Load schedules and Control Philosophies). You’ll also have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge of technical drawings such as Single Line Diagrams and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Additionally, the role will involve liaison with both clients & colleagues across multiple disciplines and develop your skills in project management, allowing you to become a successful Engineer.

Our Building Services team come together to make buildings functional, comfortable and safe to occupy, preferably through sustainable engineering solutions. We work closely with our clients, to understand how we can work to support them in achieving their Net Zero Carbon aspirations, whether that is providing comfort in the form of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, power and lighting, or ensuring it is safe to occupy through fire safety and security design. Our capabilities include Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Public Health, Sustainability, Building Physics, Fire, Security and ICT, Building Energy Management Systems, Lighting and Vertical Transportation.

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer within the Building Services team at AtkinsRéalis, you will learn to carry out the following responsibilities:
• To design and specify power, lighting, security, fire, lightning protection and photovoltaic systems throughout a building.
• To produce reports, schedules and supporting documentation to enable you to issue a complete design package to the client.
• Visits to sites, client offices etc.
• Attend client and design team meetings.
• Collaboration with multi-disciplinary design teams (electrical, public health, architecture and structures) to generate a coordinated design.
• Project management.

Collaborating with inter-disciplinary teams to deliver world-class projects for our clients, you’ll carry out building services system design from concept design through to construction. You’ll be working using cutting edge digitally enabled design processes to produce holistic yet practical solutions. There will also be the opportunity to get involved with applied research and digital development to help create user-centric buildings and places.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop the broad range of skills set out by the Engineering Council, working towards the competencies required for Chartership with a professional body alongside one of our experienced engineers, who will serve as your chartership mentor. This will include innovative engineering solutions, technical analysis, preparing reports and contract documents, technical and commercial leadership whilst engaging with clients and project management.
