What to expect

The Graduate Development Programme (GDP) is a three-year framework, designed to help graduates develop the skills and knowledge they need to progress their early careers and subsequently achieve professional registration (where appropriate). The programme encompasses: a series of signature events and other core training modules; professional development; mentoring; and on-the-job experience.

You will be responsible for driving your development, supported by your line manager as you gain relevant experience through work and through formal training. Other resources are available, such as Graduate Representatives in each business, a Graduate Advisor within the Learning & Development team, and a thriving Graduate Community.

In addition, there are a number of institution-specific chartership schemes which will guide you towards achieving status as an engineer, scientist, environmentalist etc.

Watch this video and hear from our existing grads and others about what the GDP is all about and its importance to Atkins:

Our flexible framework includes:

  • Three year programme, including a two-day induction event with your fellow graduates, (typically held in September) and further day events throughout the programme.
  • Workshops and formal training in essential skills such as project management, client engagement and report-writing. Encouragement and development support through internal placements.
  • On-the-job experience, working on real projects for a range of clients.
  • Profession-specific schemes to help you gain chartership status as an engineer, scientist, environmentalist, surveyor etc.
  • Mentoring and buddy programme to help you identify and reach your goals.
  • End of programme event, professional review and a 6 – 12 month career plan.
