Insights 3 skills you can develop on our Hong Kong Graduate Program
There is no doubt that Covid-19 has propelled digital transformation forwards. The emergence of new technologies has paved a more exciting way for engineers and expanded the boundaries of engineering. If you want to be at the forefront of this rapid social and technological change, then look no further than an engineering career.
Atkins is investing in the future of engineering, bringing tomorrow’s skills, ideas and technologies to bear on the problems of today. The focus of our Hong Kong Graduate Program is to find people who have a growth mindset, meaning they’re open-minded, willing to learn and excited to help us work to change the world.
We provide engineering undergraduates with an exclusive opportunity to uncover more about Atkins, the wider AtkinsRéalis Group, and the expanding engineering field. Read on to learn about some of the skills that you’ll develop on our Hong Kong Graduate Program.
Collaboration
An engineering graduate program shouldn’t just be about developing data analysis, troubleshooting or broader technical skills. With Atkins, you won’t work in silos. Instead, you’ll work in a team that is driven by possibilities. Together, you’ll help to deliver landmark projects, like The Three-Runway system (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport
Our graduates are exposed to environments that encourage development through experience sharing. By working closely with our experienced engineers, who are some of the most talented professionals in their field, you’ll see first-hand what it means to be a part of a company that strives to be the best.
Creative thinking
Innovation is at the heart of everything that we do, and our graduate program was designed to give people a space where they can think freely and not be bound by rigid rules. You’ll carry out technical and non-technical project work, including temporary and permanent works, that will help to improve the way people live, move and work.
According to Ricky Lau, director of Civil Engineering and Development in the Hong Kong Government, creative engineers proved themselves essential during the development of the region where 7,000 hectares of land was reclaimed from the sea. That’s only the tip of the rapidly melting iceberg when it comes to environmental challenges that engineers are helping to solve in Hong Kong.
Environmental awareness
More than ever, people want to make a difference. A recent PwC global survey found that 75% of respondents ‘want to work for an organisation that will make a positive contribution to society’. Throughout our graduate program, you’ll be encouraged to make occasional site visits so that you can gain an appreciation for construction work in practice and develop your environmental awareness. These site visits help our engineers understand the local culture and reveal the unique experience of an engineering career in Hong Kong.
We’ll equip you with the knowledge you need to imagine sustainable construction to combat Hong Kong’s housing crisis, extend and improve transport networks like the Tung Chung Line, and deliver sustainable solutions for our clients. With this understanding, you can make a tangible difference to people’s lives.
Work to change the world on our Hong Kong Graduate Program
On our graduate program, you’ll master these skills, broaden your network connections and much more. Our career programs put you in the driving seat, so you can manage your achievements and build on your strengths and abilities. Over the course of three months, you’ll gain access to workshops and formal training to help you develop skills such as project management, effective presentations, influencing and communication. It’s all a part of our commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
