Summary:

We are looking to recruit Design Leads and Engineers at all levels to support our dedicated National Active Travel team across the UK providing technical excellence in this field.

The role will focus primarily on a multi-disciplinary approach to active travel and help shape our offering with key clients. There will also be opportunities to support other national and international high-profile projects.

You will play a key role in supporting the technical development of the wider team and provide thought leadership across active travel and related disciplines to continually improve our client offering.

The roles are to be based at any of our UK offices, with regular travel to other offices and project locations across the UK as expected.

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Civil Engineering or similar).

Essential Criteria:

  • Strong client relationships and the ability to build on these, including the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Significant experience of active travel projects from initial planning and strategic advice through to feasibility studies and scheme delivery.
  • A high level of technical awareness of active travel standards, policies, and best practice.
  • Experience of using UK highway design documents within DMRB and others – such as Active Travel Act Guidance, Cycling by Design and LTN 1/20.
  • An ability to devise and present initial and innovative solutions to complex active travel problems.
  • Proven experience of work-winning in a competitive environment.
  • Experience of supporting or leading larger pieces of technical work such as town or city-wide studies, including managing and prioritising own workload and that of others.
  • A good understanding of the UK transport planning and engineering market and geography.
  • Membership of relevant technical institutions – e.g., ICE, CIHT, CILT.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Full driving licence.
  • Cycling experience.
  • Ability to deliver technical training seminars.
  • Experience of large public and stakeholder consultation projects.
  • Evidence of CPD relating to active travel infrastructure design.
  • Experience in developing national policy and strategy documents and/or technical standards and guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • Team leadership and engagement with active travel representatives across our multi-disciplinary business and promotion of active travel solutions.
  • Production of task briefs, resourcing schedules and project plans for active travel projects.
  • Technical project support and/or leadership with responsibility for high quality project deliverables with effective client relationship management and positioning.
  • Ad-hoc advice for internal and external clients with regards to active travel design projects.
  • Assisting the wider Transportation team with larger, complex projects such as UK standard, policy and guidance document updates.
  • Assisting with business development across the UK for active travel and closely related disciplines.
  • Assistance with coaching and training of junior/graduate level staff and assistance with technical training delivery.
