Insights New tool will help us measure ED&I progress

21 February 2020

Atkins, a member of the AtkinsRéalis group, recently implemented a new software system, Clear Assured, to help measure our progress towards achieving our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) objectives, in the UK & Europe regions.

Clear Assured is a software platform that will learn our ED&I culture and objectives to help us achieve our goals as well as provide stakeholders with activities, information and templates to support them in their ED&I journey. It’s also a national accredited standard, owned and developed by the Clear Company in the UK. This means that in addition to measuring our progress, Clear Assured will independently assess it on a quarterly basis. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, we’ll be awarded one of four different types of accreditations: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Vicky Jones, Head of Talent Attraction & Recruitment and Head of Diversity & Inclusion says: “We know that ED&I is both a commercial imperative and a corporate responsibility. Our success and growth have been made possible by the different thoughts and perspectives of our people, and working together to build a community where everyone deserves to belong without exception. This tool will help us build on that.”

Kelly Cary, Managing Consultant, Transportation Planning, adds: “ED&I accreditations are now a requirement of many of our key clients when we’re bidding for work. Adopting Clear Assured and working towards its accreditation will not only ensure we enhance our ED&I approach, but will also align us well with our key clients such as HS2 and Highways England, enabling us to be recognised as a sector leader in ED&I.”

One of our ED&I objectives for 2020 focuses on increasing the diversity of our workforce. Clear Assured will help us to achieve this by identifying and removing barriers from our recruitment and talent management policy, process and practice which have the potential to exclude under-represented groups including people with disabilities, BAME and LGBT+ candidates.

Some of Clear Assured’s other features include:

Time saving: It prompts us to think about policies and practices that can impact our objectives. It also helps develop new policies and practices quickly and with the most impact.

Accelerated learning and culture change: It educates and empowers our HR teams and the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee (DISC) by giving them access to a wealth of searchable resources and the advice of trusted experts, ready to chat live online when they’re needed.

Access to expertise: It provides our HR teams and DISC members with access to the latest thinking, white papers, case studies and research findings to educate and support them to achieve our ED&I objectives and goals.

Supply chain empowerment: It sets performance expectations for our recruitment supply chain and our learning providers as well as supports them to succeed with frameworks and progress trackers.

Progress measurement: It provides the results of our collective efforts to our HR teams and DISC members in real time. The ‘live progress’ tracker changes as we take action, allowing us to share our achievements with the wider business quicker and with greater accuracy.

Adopting Clear Assured is another step forward on our ED&I journey that already spans many years and includes the following achievements:

ED&I is embedded in our People strategy which aims to enable a workforce that is engaged, skilled and responsive to our rapidly changing world through a focus on becoming a sector leader in inclusive employment, creating a healthy workplace, defining a compelling local employee value proposition, and ensuring our people are fit for the future.

Our ED&I Networks provide opportunities for social interaction, peer support and personal development, as well as contributing to the development of policies and working practices.

Our Transitioning in the Workplace and new Flexible Working policies enable a consistently inclusive culture.

We’ve been recognised as a Disability Confident Committed employer, which is a scheme that supports organisations like ours to make the most of the talents that people with disability can bring to our workplace.
