Insights Software development and the Nuclear sector

Tell us a little bit about yourself your professional background?

I graduated as an electronics and communications engineer in 2015 from India. My first professional job ever was in a well-known Indian government research center as a software developer. In 2016, I joined the automation industry as a project engineer to automate the quality control equipment. I moved to Canada in 2018 and have been working in AtkinsRéalis ’s nuclear sector as a control software developer. I also support nuclear power plant outage work as software support personnel and data analyst.

What inspired you to become an engineer? 

As a kid I was curious when looking into gadgets and wondered how they worked. I always wanted to figure out the logic and the functioning of any working device so I could make something new out of it. As I grew older, I knew I wanted to be an engineer so I could build something new and make a difference.

What is the coolest thing you are working on?

I developed software in my past and present roles. The software command machines I work on perform tasks that simplify human efforts. Also, sometimes the software and the machine together perform tasks basically no human can perform.

Currently at AtkinsRéalis , I’m working on a system that plays an important role in a nuclear power plant—that is coolest thing for me. I am always amazed to see the power of engineering minds behind the different parts of such systems.

What do you think has had the biggest impact on your career development to date?

I’ve been working with people in different fields since the day I started working. From professors to previous and current managers and coworkers, they have all taught me a lot. I’ve had great roles which have given me opportunities to work in different fields and situations. This has really helped me grow as a professional as well as a person.

What is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

One of my colleagues gave me this advice, “Learn something new every day.” I try to learn something new every day for self improvement.

What is your favorite quote and why?

My favorite quote is, “Try and try until you succeed.” When I was a kid, my parents taught me to be patient and work harder to achieve my goals. Whether it’s a career goal or a simple task, I always work hard until I achieve it.

Tell us one fun fact about yourself.

I have hundreds of places to visit on my travel bucket list. I love to travel, explore and capture nature’s beauty in my memory and on my camera. I’m a decent photographer, and I encourage people to see some of my work on Instagram.
