Insights Everything you need to know about the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

The United Arab Emirates is in the midst of a transition in its aim to diversify its economy by moving away from oil and replacing other alternative energy with the sun. Undergoing a total of five phases at an investment of $50 billion, the Solar Park is the largest concentrated solar power project in the world and is expected to be completed by the end of the decade. How can this impact your chances of building a rewarding career in the Middle East

Read on as we detail everything you need to know about the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

The vision of HRH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

“Every investment in the development of clean energy sources is at the same time, an investment to protect the environment for future generations.”

These are the words of His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Priminister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai when he first announced the project under the Dubai Clean Energy ‘infrastructure pillar’.

The Solar Park has an incredible 2.3 million photovoltaic solar panels. Based on the Independent Power Producer Model and a planned production capacity of 5,000 MW, the Solar Park will reduce emissions by more than 6.5 million tonnes by 2030. The Solar Park is already using technologies such as the parabolic basin complex and photovoltaic tech in its aim to become more harmonious with nature.

A contribution to future generations

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will contribute to three key aspects for the city of Dubai and its residents. The first is environmental as the Solar Park will enhance the use of natural resources and help the UAE decrease its carbon footprint to being one of the lowest in the world by 2050. In addition, the Solar Park will also contribute economically and socially. The project supports DEWA’s commitment to governance, work ethics and corporate responsibility by providing more job opportunities to both its Emirati citizens and professionals passionate about sustainability.

Unmatched job opportunities in the UAE

We are already seeing UAE sustainability become a reality. As of last year, it is reported that the Emirates has achieved a 70% SME contribution to non-oil GDP. As the effect of climate change becomes more apparent, both governments and businesses are trying to take responsibility for addressing the crisis and the overall impact they have. Projects like the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will allow for a Greener Growth Strategy to be implemented and extend an invitation to those who aspire to work on some of the world’s most ambitious projects.
