The Atkins Civil Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our Melbourne, FL office as a Civil Engineer I.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under supervision, performs routine engineering work while developing professional proficiency. On design assignments, works to learn how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving investigations and planning, works to learn the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems. On assignments involving construction activities, works to develop an understanding of construction methods and the translation of engineering drawings and specifications into the constructed product. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

JOB DUTIES

Assist the design team working on civil engineering design projects including stormwater management and storm sewer systems, land development, site layout, potable water and sanitary sewer system improvements, and roadway improvements.
Assist with design work, drafting, shop drawing review, field work, code research, project delivery, site and environmental permitting, report writing.
Opportunities may exist for assisting the coastal engineering and airport planning groups depending on project staffing requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

B.S. in Civil Engineering. Minimal experience is required of incumbents with a Bachelor's Degree in a branch of Engineering (Civil) directly related to hiring discipline; no experience required with a Master's degree.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Good interpersonal skills and capable of developing technical writing, and communications skills. PC and CAD skills required.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

E.I. or EIT preferred.
Student Chapter ASCE, FES or other technical engineering society preferred.

OTHER

Must be able to use AutoCAD.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, be motivated and responsible.
