The Atkins Construction Management Group is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our Henderson, NV office as a Construction Field Engineer.

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

  • Under supervision, applies technical professional proficiency to the investigation of engineering problems, the coordination of project activities, and the preparation of preliminary plans and documents. 
  • On design assignments, progresses toward learning how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications.
  • On engineering and planning assignments, continues to develop a knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems. 
  • On construction assignments, continues to develop an understanding of construction methods and the translation of engineering plans and specifications into the constructed product. 
  • Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.
JOB DUTIES
  • Performs work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment, to carry out diversified engineering projects or phases of a single project with relatively few complex features and requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning.
  • Analyzes construction project requirements in terms of personnel required for observation of construction progress and for testing and sampling of materials.
  • Schedules and oversees the work of internal staff assigned to observation and testing activities.
  • Assists in reviewing contractors’ material submittals for conformance with contract documents.
  • Conducts jobsite inspections for compliance with approved project-specific plans, such as contractors’ stormwater management plans and traffic control plans.
  • Coordinates with public agencies and local utilities involved in oversight of construction projects. 
  • Observes construction progress in the field and writes reports to record observations and summarize test results.
  • Monitors contractors' progress against established schedule.
  • Reviews payment requests and submits them to more senior personnel for authorization.
  • Recommends solutions to field construction problems, acting as intermediary between contractor and internal staff.
  • Assists in development of technical scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for proposed changes to construction contracts. 
  • Performs other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering or related field applicable to pursuit of registration as Professional Engineer. 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in the field on construction projects is required.
  • Eligible experience includes positions such as construction field engineer, project engineer, and office engineer.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working on infrastructure projects for public agencies or utility service providers is required. 
  • Work experience in southern Nevada and familiarity with local construction standards are highly desirable.
SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Technical writing, computer and communications skills required. 
  • CAD skills preferred.
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • E.I. or EIT is required.
