Electrical Power Engineer (Senior/Principal)

If you are a technically established Senior Electrical Engineer, then we are all waiting for you to join our team. You’ll be proactive, enjoy working collaboratively and have strong leadership skills.

This opportunity is to strengthen our activities in transmission substation, distribution substation and electrical power engineering design. A background in the Nuclear industry would be beneficial but is not essential. You will ideally be located within our Bristol or Epsom teams, but other locations (Birmingham, Glasgow, or Leeds) or flexible arrangements would be considered. 

In addition to support to Transmission and Distribution Companies, we expect the team to provide support to large generation projects (onshore and offshore) as well as industrial systems including nuclear.

As part of our team you’ll be providing expert advice across various projects within the immediate and wider business. This role will involve contributing to project development, engineering specification preparation, production of design specifications and design drawings, and the production and management of both technical and operational data.

Building and developing relationships is a key part of this role, as is management of the design process on specific projects. You will be providing Client / Supplier design interface and management and good communication skills are essential.

You will enjoy working in a team environment and using your expertise to take a lead role within our team. You’ll also have the desire and ability to lead bids, deliver and technically manage work either as a lead or part of a team. You will also have strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills.

You’ll have working knowledge of electrical power technologies and be experienced in UK practices. In addition to having a positive attitude to health and safety (especially within the design process), you’ll also be able to demonstrate the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree and/ or Masters in Electrical Engineering, but candidates holding HNC/ HND qualifications and proven experience will also be considered;

• Ideally Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of IET;

• Extensive electrical power design experience on industrial systems;

• Good understanding of power distribution within industrial systems, including low voltage networks;

• Relevant experience of motor control centres, motor starting techniques and both high and low voltage motors;

• Conversant with Health & Safety requirements and responsibilities under CDM regulations;

• Experience and / or qualifications working for National Grid or one of the Distribution Network Operators would be advantageous;

• Strong leadership qualities and ability to mentor junior staff, support in recruitment, and have external facing responsibilities (client management, business development) and set strategic direction for the team.
