Atkins is one of the largest transportation consultancies in the UK, and a leading supplier of engineering services to government, regulatory and local authorities, infrastructure owners and operators. Major clients include Highways England, Local Authorities, TfL, HS2, Network Rail and London Underground, design and build contractors and other niche clients.

To meet our growth ambitions, we are seeking a high calibre and dynamic Project Manager to join our Transportation Business. The candidate will be capable of leading civil and structural engineering projects of varying types and sizes in our Central Region (including South Wales, Birmingham and the South West), primarily based in our Bristol Office.
The individual will also need to contribute to our overall growth strategy; Able to lead bids, develop Client relationships and identify opportunities for both the local and wider business. As part of this, the ideal candidate will be able to support our Regional Local Authorities Key Account Management (KAM) Lead, building on an already strong presence in the South West with both Clients and Contractors.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experience and skills:
• Appropriate academic and professional qualifications, including Chartered/Licensed status and Member of a recognised UK professional institution, e.g. ICE, IStructE, CIHT or similar
• Able to manage and lead multi-disciplinary highway projects, dealing with Clients, Contractors and Stakeholders.
• Experience of managing contractual issues and change with Clients and Contractors, ideally within a Design and Build context
• Ability to provide strong safety leadership within dynamic working environments
• Experience of developing strong and sustainable relationships with Clients and Stakeholders, understanding their requirements and aspirations, and working effectively with them to achieve their objectives
• Demonstrable evidence of leading, managing and winning bids
• Strong and effective communication skills
• Strong organisational and leadership skills
• Awareness and experience of Highway England’s SGAR process and the various deliverables required at each stage.

The Individual
• A hard working and flexible individual, who is reliable, proactive and innovative, whilst able to keep calm under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines
• Highly organised and able to operate independently within the constraints of a wider consultancy management structure.
• Be available to travel across the UK if required for projects - primarily within the South West England, South Wales and Birmingham areas.
• A high expectation of performance for themselves and their project teams, coupled with a drive for continuous improvement
• Customer focused, including maintaining and driving client feedback programme
• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbally and in writing
• Able to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good people management skills.
• Able to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with both clients and the
