Rail Systems Engineer

Atkins is looking for talented individuals to join our Systems and Safety Engineering Practice in a variety of locations and levels. The team is currently working on a number of national and international assignments and your role will be crucial in helping deliver to our Clients. In addition to this, you will form an integral part of our plans to expand our systems engineering services.

We are a growing Practice working on a diverse range of high profile projects. We help our clients understand and make confident decisions in complex situations; covering independent audit/assessment, technology development, engineering process, scheme development and design, construction and commissioning.

We’re looking for individuals to help deliver projects supporting large scale projects for Network rail, London Underground and other international Clients; as well as supporting the wider Transportation industry. Understanding projects from different stakeholder’s point of view, you’ll help our clients to find the best solutions to their challenges.

The role will involve working as part of a team or leading work to:

• Deliver Systems Engineering for major infrastructure projects. Working with both internal and external Customers – including technical scope definition and management, process definition, solution integration, performance analysis and assurance.
• Work with industry leading organisations to drive technical programme development – including complex thinking, problem definition and thought facilitation.
• Engage with stakeholders, including direct clients and otherwise, to ensure that their needs are understood and shaping our services in response.
• Technically govern the delivery of other projects.
• Drive the development and sharing of knowledge across the team.
• Actively lead business development and bidding opportunities.
• Work across Atkins to align process, share knowledge and drive innovation.
• Continuously develop your skills and competence to maintain professional qualification.
• Build and maintain a network of contacts within and outside of Atkins to build our reputation and develop opportunities.

You will be a system oriented thinker with an understanding of key systems engineering activities. You will have proven experience within at least one major industry, preferably connected with the railway industry. An appreciation or understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts, tools and techniques is desirable but not essential.
