Senior Structural Engineer

Role
We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Building Structures team in Atkins Epsom Office as part of the Infrastructure business.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering, have solid experience in the design and assessment of building and civil structures in the UK and be Chartered with either the ICE or IStructE. The role may involve periods of time spent working away from Epsom and as such the candidate must be willing to travel.

The ability to act as a discipline lead and run projects supervising more junior staff is essential as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally the successful candidate needs to be self-motivated and hard working with a desire to help grow and shape the current team. Good commercial awareness and project management skills are desirable.

Team Introduction:
The Infrastructure Building Structures team in the Epsom office currently comprises around 60 staff working on a mixture of heavy civils projects and building projects. The team is led by Paul Martin with three other Associate Directors and six Associates. The team takes on up to five new Graduates every year and is committed to training and mentoring junior engineers. The team works on a wide variety of national and international projects in the UK, currently predominantly in the Nuclear, Defence and Airport sectors. Going forward there is a desire to extend to other sectors and the successful candidate will be key in driving this forward.

Requirements
In addition to the role requirements detailed above the following is required;

• Extensive experience working as a structural engineer in the UK buildings sector;
• Chartered Engineer status (ICE or IStructE);
• Experience in the design of building structures using the conventional engineering materials (steel concrete, timber, masonry) to both British Standards and Eurocodes;
• Sound experience in conceptual design; and
• Ability to use AutoCAD and structural analysis software (Robot and Fastrak). Revit experience is also desirable.
