Assistant Ecologist

To meet our growing project workload and help us design and apply new approaches to our work, we are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Ecologist to join our Epsom office and become a part of the London and the South East Ecology Practice at AtkinsRéalis.

Our ecology team also won the inaugural CIEEM Large-Scale Consultancy of the Year Award in 2018 and has been highly commended in the same award category each year thereafter.

The ideal candidate would be looking to work in a hybrid manner, based from our Epsom office and undertaking surveys across the south east of England.

Joining us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant and high-profile projects, with many of our projects winning awards for biodiversity enhancements, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

What you will be doing

· Providing ecological support to a varied range of projects across different sectors and collaborating with our multi-disciplinary teams;

· Planning and co-ordinating field surveys, analysing and interpreting survey results;

· Undertaking field surveys and managing survey data;

· Authoring ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals;

· Undertaking mapping using QGIS; and

· Assisting with bid preparation and building client relationships.

About you

Ideally, you would have the following qualifications and/or attributes:

· A degree in ecology, biology, zoology or closely related field (desirable but not essential);

· At least qualifying membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or an application in process (AtkinsRéalis to cover membership costs);

· Experience in UKHabitat survey (Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) level 3 +, or demonstrable experience equating to this level would be desirable);

· Survey skills for one or more protected species (a protected species licence(s) would be desirable);

· An understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements and best practice survey techniques;

· Understanding of biodiversity net gain (BNG);

· Experience of producing ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Reports;

· Strong collaborative behaviours to interface with multi-disciplinary teams and other stakeholders;

· Willingness to complete field surveys and travel to locations within the south-east of England;

· Excellent communication skills; and

· A full valid UK/EEC driving licence.

Training

AtkinsRéalis develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. These are reviewed with individuals through an annual development process which is regularly reviewed. You will also be part of our global Technical Networks, which provide a flow of technically orientated information and ideas through the company. AtkinsRéalis will support you in your professional development, whether with CIEEM, IEMA, CIWEM or others, we support staff in achieving and maintaining membership of relevant institutions, this includes paying your annual membership and providing access to training.
