Atkins is one of the world's leading highway & rail consulting engineers. Its highway & rail business is the largest in its field in Europe. We undertake projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction management. Our engineers and architects provide a full range of design, engineering and project management services for buildings, transportation and other infrastructure programmes.

Atkins Transportation business is seeking a CAD/BIM Data Technician with a good practical understanding of BIM. The suitable candidate will have expertise of CAD data production for major projects, within a multi-disciplinary environment. The CAD/BIM Data Technician will primarily work on delivering projects, however will play a key part in the newly forming Transportation BIM leadership team. The role will provide technical leadership at project level in the knowledge, application, development and delivery of BIM.

Role requires a combination of four major elements: -
1. Working practical knowledge of 3D design tools
2. Understanding of the practical application of BIM, 4D and 5D modelling
3. Documenting and delivering training
4. Support core CAD delivery across design teams

Job Details
The responsibilities:
BIM/3D CAD
• Support the rollout strategy for BIM
• Enable teams to deliver multi discipline projects using the latest technology
• Ensure project team deliver to client standards
• Ensure progress, processes and issues in the CAD/BIM environment are effectively reported and addressed
• On an ongoing basis, promote and assist teams in adopting best practice in implementing BIM methodologies and practices

Business-wide BIM Performance Improvement
• Assist the Transportation BIM Leads in identifying where efficiency savings, training or productivity gains can bring worthwhile benefit, and assist in the implementation of solutions.
• Support the work associated with CAD, BIM, and Document Management software upgrades and testing.

Operational Leadership
• Engage with Project Teams to respond effectively to poor working and/or inconsistent methods that require improvement
• Reinforce Quality Assurance processes to ensure that all client deliverables are fully compliant with standards
• Assist project delivery staff to setup and maintain projects to ensure delivery to client standards

Qualifications
• Engineering or technically based training and professional qualification essential (HNC, BSc, BEng)
• Technician Member (or working towards) with the IStructE or ICE would be preferential
• Evidence of ongoing CPD in recognised industry applications (ie Bentley, AutoDesk)

Experience (essential):
• Must have experience producing 2D/3D CAD data
• Knowledge of infrastructure design processes working within a multiple discipline engineering environment, and within a project and commercially focused business;
• Identify, interpret and apply required industry/ client/ internal CAD standards.
• Experience delivering technical training
• Advanced user of at least two of the following list of software:-
o AutoCAD 2D/3D
o Microstation 2D/3D
o Revit Structure
o AECOSim Building Designer
o Civils 3D

Experience (Advantageous):
Experience of the following would be useful but not essential:-
• ProjectWise,
• Adobe Creative Suite,
• Navisworks,
• Bentley Navigator,

• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business
• Good team player whilst remaining self motivated
• Excellent problem solving abilities
• Excellent time management and prioritisation
• Creative thinker with a can do attitude.

Training
Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. Online training for all Autodesk and Bentley products are available after initial assessment.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
