GIS Analyst (Entry Level)

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Calverton, Maryland as a GIS Analyst.  Our ideal candidate will have education and entry-level experience with geospatial analysis and mapping processes and GIS software and technologies.

Major Function/Role:
Under supervision, performs standard geographic information system (GIS) work while developing professional proficiency.

Job Duties:
Generally applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning. Can detect problems in using standardized procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.  Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations which may include the following:

•Conducts data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.
•Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS Projects.
•Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.
•Participates in client needs analyses.
•Maintains continued knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and use of GIS software.
•Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary. 

Education and Experience:
B.S. or B.A. in Geography, Computer Science or related GIS Environmental Discipline, commensurate with hiring discipline. Minimal experience is required of incumbents with directly related Bachelor's Degree; no experience required with a Master's degree.

Special Skills:
Good interpersonal and computer skills and capable of developing technical writing and communication skills. Familiarity with GIS technology and software packages required.  Esri software preferred.

Additional Requirements:
FEMA PTS or CTP program knowledge a plus.
