Operations Director


Join our successful Leadership Team! Under the general guidance of the Senior Operations Director, this leader coordinates $5 to $15 million of operations and directly manages 5 to 15 staff, within a multi Sector/Office matrix of 20 to 50 regional staff, while maintaining a personal chargeability more than 70%. The position is a key collaboration, communication and strategy execution point for the company for us to operate efficiently, deliver on our annual business and growth plans while driving engagement with our local staff and in collaboration within the EDPM organization and corporate functions. The focus of the Operations Director is to be Staff and Client centric. People, Processes and Technology is what underpins our business to engage our staff, foster collaboration, effectively communicate our strategy and deliver results for both the business and our clients in a safe, ethical, predictable and innovative manner. This position is located in our Atlanta, GA office. Experience in the sectors of Industrial, Transportation, Energy or Corporate Real Estate is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

Staff Engagement:

-Provides key point of leadership for our Sector/Office matrix within a geographic area. This includes the development and mentoring of an effective and collaborative local management team, including interface with our wider company.

-In conjunction with Business Unit Director, Operations Director and Sector Lead(s) identify KPI’s around staff engagement, business development goals and personal KAM Revenue and Margin targets.

-Holds periodic (monthly) management and staff meetings to provide BU and regional business updates and coordinate management activities.

 

Staff Administration:

-Selects and/or participates in conjunction with the KAM/Sector leads the selection of candidates for jobs within the region.

-Conducts semi-annual performance reviews and annual career planning sessions for direct reports.

-Promotes effective performance management and career development practices throughout the region to ensure employees reach highest possible performance level, job satisfaction, and commitment.

-Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and business management system (BMS) throughout the region and all projects.

 

Win Work:

-Executes localized business development plans and activities aligned to our Sector matrixed Annual Business Plans and growth strategy.

-In conjunction with Ops Coordinators, Key Account Managers (KAM’s), Sector organization Leads and Office Administrators maintain the Vision CRM system to accurately reflect our Pipeline and upcoming Marketing/Proposal efforts.

-Undertakes business development role locally in line with Sector/Sub Sector strategies including target client identification and pursuit; securing and attending target client meetings; capture manager role where appropriate; RFI/RFP issue awareness and preparation; contract T&C review; pricing; negotiation; to support Win Work.

-Develops and implements strategic objectives for our Sector/Office matrix, including core and growth services aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives.

 

Deliver Work:

-Maintains personal chargeability in excess of 70%, with a focus on 1 to 3 Key Accounts.

 

Project Delivery:

-Working in conjunction with the BU sector, division managers and project directors provides oversight and monitors that projects are delivered on time, within contracted budget, and to professional and technical standards.

-Promotes that projects follow the prescribed delivery processes including but not limited to project execution plans, schedules, risk management, and change management in conjunction with the KAM.

 

Quality:

-In conjunction with the KAM’s monitors and promotes that EDPM’s quality and technical assurance program is followed on all projects.

 

SHE:

-Monitors and promotes a strong safety awareness across the region.

-Works with the regional SHE managers to ensure that safety performance is a foremost objective in all aspects of the business, and that task hazard assessments (THAs) or other safety planning tools are properly utilized on all projects.

-Participates in the BU safety teams.

 

Financial:

-In conjunction with the KAM monitors billing and collections and assists with project risks and potential payment issues.

-In conjunction with the KAM reviews monthly PSR and identifies issues to Sector/Sub Sector. 

 

Reporting:

-In conjunction with the KAM monitors completion of Project Review Records (PRR’s)

-Provides a monthly report and a weekly productivity gap report to the Senior Operations Director.

 

Project Resourcing:

-Supports the BU sector and division managers, to properly staff projects. Works with the recruiting team to identify and prioritize requisitions for the region.

 

Complexity:

-Manages the staff and operations of a region/offices in multiple locations.

 

Decision Making:

-Works collaboratively within the Sector/Office matrix, under general direction of the Sr Operations Director.

-Makes approval decisions as specified in the Authorization Matrix.

-Accountable to the Sector/Sub sector for profitability, project performance, and overall results related to Operations Director’s direct KAM.

 

Work Direction given to others:

-Directly supervises project managers, technical professionals, and assigned technical and administrative support staff.

-Responsible for performance management and career development of direct reports.

 

Internal Contacts:

-Interfaces with Sector/Sub Sector Leads, Key Account Managers (KAM’s), Service Leads and shared services.

-Interfaces with technical professionals and administrative staff.

 

External Contacts

-Represents the organization in a leadership role to primary clients and key public officials.

 

Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree in field of practice. Post graduate degree preferred.

-Management coursework and/or MBA preferred.

-This level may be achieved by industry professionals or managers with minimum 15 years of experience since B.S., with at least ten of these years in a senior operating management position.

-Professional registration in field of practice is required, if available, e.g., P.E, RICS, AACE, PMI, CCM.

-Excellent technical and interpersonal skills.

-Proven ability to manage large scope operations and provide leadership to multiple levels of staff.

-Highly skilled at promoting the firm and negotiating advantageous contracts.

-Must have business vision, excellent communication skills, and be able to represent the firm effectively to clients, key public officials, and the community in general.
