Our growing team is looking for a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer who thrives on making a strong personal contribution and who is motivated to help make the organisation a little better every day. You want to deliver – for yourself, for the organisation and for the client.

We need an experienced EC&I engineer who can lead and deliver multiple projects simultaneously. You’ll enjoy working closely with clients on a range of demanding issues whilst mentoring and training more junior colleagues to protect the high standards that we’re proud of.

About the Team
 
Following our recent major wins across the Nuclear New Build Market, SNC-Lavalin are now poised play a key role in the development of the design of the next generation of Nuclear Power Stations. We are therefore seeking individuals to join us in delivering key facilities, systems and components across the full spectrum of the power station and continue supporting our clients in the Nuclear Generation and Decommissioning Markets.

As part of our Nuclear & Power business, our team specialises in taking on the most challenging engineering projects and opportunities that exist across the board, from technical leadership to project management. With existing relationships with the major operators in the nuclear sector, we offer a stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to meet the challenge of nuclear new build.

Based in Bristol, our EC&I team is one of our most culturally diverse, with people from all around the world. Whilst your office base will be in Bristol, flexibility in work location is a must – from time to time our clients do call on our team to deliver work from their sites.
 
What you’ll be doing
 
You will provide technical leadership to a team of EC&I engineering professionals. You will also be responsible for leading the development of project-specific engineering solutions and providing technical oversight of the work we produce ensuring it meets agreed timescales and budget. You will provide the necessary design justification to ensure design solutions are compliant with safety and regulatory requirements. You will lead in the production of proposals to clients whilst working to develop strong and lasting relationships with key client contacts.

Day-to-day activities will include:

• Full lifecycle of activities from requirements capture, through front end and detailed design, implementation oversight and support and testing and commissioning together with design substantiation.
• Projects including refurbishments of old ageing design and new design, and with a wide range of electrical, control and instrumentation equipment, analogue (non-smart) and digital (smart) instrumentation and systems (relay-based, solid state, PLC).
• Safety Case involvement and reliability engineering.


You’ll need to have

You’ll enjoy taking on a range of challenges, some technical, some wider business-oriented; all of which help us to run a strong business. You’ll want to work with customers and with teams who deliver to their customers and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with uncertainty. As soon as you’re presented with a problem, you are focused on how to resolve it, whatever it might be.

Overall, you get satisfaction from building relationships with clients and with colleagues, and especially enjoy watching people develop and grow in your team. You like getting to know people and working out how you can have a positive impact on them – whether delivering a solution for a client, helping the team to win more work or helping someone to progress within the organisation.

In addition to having excellent communication and problem-solving skills you will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Degree qualified Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer.
• Chartership status (or significant demonstrable progress towards its achievement) and membership of a professional institution.
• Experience of leading, supervising, developing and mentoring others.
• Proven capability of leading and delivering EC&I engineering projects within the Nuclear Industry (preferable) or other highly regulated industry.
• Proven experience in safety control systems.
• Strong technical background, including all the different activities undertaken as part of a C&I project lifecycle.
• Understanding of what is required when undertaking design in safety critical industries, like Nuclear.
• Strong commercial awareness.
• A proven track record of excellent client engagement skills with an ability to develop new opportunities and win work.
• Experience in Safety Case production is desirable, although not essential.
