Senior Roadway/ Bridge Structural Inspector

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Houston, TX Construction Management Group as a Senior Roadway/Bridge Structural Inspector. 

Major Function/Role:

Under general supervision, applies the strong technical skills of a highly experienced field representative, researching and interpreting contract requirements to determine whether construction work is proceeding in substantial compliance with plans, contracts, specifications and special provisions. NOTE: Incumbents do not supervise any contractors' activities and are not responsible for job site safety.

Job Duties:

Applies strong skills and experience in field observation practices to diversified construction projects of medium to large complexity.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma (or equivalent) plus twelve years related experience OR an Associates Degree in a related technical field plus ten years related experience is required.

Special Skills:

Good oral communications skills and ability to organize information. Math computation skills and understanding of contract plans and specifications.

Professional Registrations:

No Professional Registrations required. May be required to obtain certification in nuclear density, aggregate, concrete and asphalt testing or other applicable areas.

Additional Requirements:

A strong background and knowledge of structures with previous DOT experience is a must and TXDOT experience highly preferred. 

DOT experience should address:

• Excavation/embankment
• Lime or cement stabilized subgrade and/or base courses
• Hot Mix Asphalt Pavement (Method or QCQA Specification)
• Concrete Pavement
• Bridge Inspection of Drill Shafts, Piling, Columns, Caps, Beam placement, Slab Placement.
• SW3P and Barricade Inspection
• Project documentation for payment and material testing (Site Manager a +)

Detailed Structural experience including supervision of other inspectors for:

• Drill Shafts (Slurry/Dry) with details of placement, documentation of Drill Shaft Reports
• Pile Driving with details of driving, documentation of Pile Driving Reports
• Bridge footings, center of gravity calculations
• Placement of columns, caps, beams, precast panels, reinforcing steel
• Dry run of bridge screed documenting clear cover of steel, slab depth.
• Depth measurements during placement of concrete
• Curing requirements.
