Technician

Atkins Wastewater Networks (WWN) works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. 

Technicians are needed to work as part of one of WWN’s key delivery offices, supporting the delivery of a wide range of drainage infrastructure projects.  It will involve the technical input into projects, including the assessment of sewer and urban drainage systems, project management assistance and liaison with other offices and staff.

The role may require the post holder to work away from their normal office and in client and other Atkins offices for extended periods.

The Individual

The successful individual will be looking to learn and develop technically, working towards a professional qualification.  They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project roles.  They will be knowledgeable about changes in the Water Industry and implications on design and performance criteria.

Requirements

Qualifications

•  School qualifications or equivalent – Maths, Science and Geography (at least 1 of)

•  HNC/HND Civil Engineering (desirable)

•  Full UK driving license (clean)

Essential Criteria

•  Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

•  Excellent Communication Skills – oral and written

•  Proactive and motivated to develop technical knowledge and experience

•  Appreciation or experience of the UK Water Industry

•  Excellent team working

Desirable Criteria

•  AutoCad

•  Drainage Infrastructure Design and Rehabilitation

•  InfoWorks

•  Geographic Information systems (MapInfo/ArcView)

•  Visual basic or other programming skills

Responsibilities

•  Support senior team members in analysis of operational data

•  Support development of technical reports and other project deliverables

•  Undertake occasional site surveys

•  Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments

•  Assist with the development of sewer system models

•  Assist with the development of 1D and 2D  (CAD) models to investigate flood risk and flooding mechanisms.
