Tunnel Ventilation Specialist

We have opportunities for dynamic and motivated Tunnel Ventilation Specialists for our Epsom office. Candidates should have extensive experience in tunnel ventilation and/or tunnel fire and life safety analysis and design gained on road, rail and/or metro projects.

Atkins has an impressive current portfolio of road, rail & metro tunnelling projects both in the UK and overseas. In the Middle East, Atkins has delivered major design commissions for, amongst others, the Dubai Metro, Qatar LRT and Jeddah Airport transit tunnels; and is currently working on major metro projects in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In the United States we are developing an increased presence and are engaged in significant tunnel projects including the I70 Denver Road Tunnel. In the UK, the Tunnel Ventilation team continues to support LUL in its tunnel ventilation analysis for the upgrade of the underground network; has recently delivered a Scheme Design for the major refurbishment of the Heathrow Road Tunnels and continues to deliver design and tender design services for major UK projects including HS2, Crossrail, Northern Line Extension and underground station upgrade works. In northern Europe, Atkins is expanding and developing opportunities on tunnel projects together with its offices in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The tunnel ventilation team offers access to the latest 1D and 3D modelling software in the tunnel ventilation environment with significant investment being made in training and tools to maximize staff learning and expertise.

Requirements

• Good academic background with a science, mathematics or engineering bachelors or masters degree
• Extensive experience of tunnel ventilation, fire and life-safety design, gained in road, rail and/or metro tunnelling schemes. Candidates with experience in related industries such as in building services, with an aptitude for and interest in the numerical analysis and modelling aspects are also encouraged to apply.

• Good written and verbal communication skills (clear, concise report writing will be expected)

• A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas
